Movie Inspiration: Hollywood Glamour

I love Old Hollywood movies.  The hair, the makeup, the accessories, the sets, and of course the costumes are so beautiful.  I have assembled a list of my five favorites.  Grab some popcorn, que these movies up, and get ready for some major wardrobe envy!  Look no further for glamour inspiration.

5. High Society (1956)

Starring Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra- if that doesn’t convince you it’s worth a watch, I don’t know what will.  Grace Kelly had recently become engaged to Prince Rainier of Monaco, and she wears her own breathtaking 10.5 carat engagement ring in the movie (via IMDb).  In this film, Ms. Kelly shows us what a swimsuit cover-up should look like, dances around with Frank Sinatra in a gorgeous evening gown, and wears one of the most beautiful wedding dresses I’ve ever seen!  There is also a lot of great music (Louis Armstrong makes an appearance), so check it out!

4.  Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

This is at the very end of the Old Hollywood years, but I had to include it.  Audrey Hepburn’s character Holly Golightly wears many of the same dresses repeatedly in this movie, changing up the accessories to give herself a slightly different look with each wear.  Talk about a style icon!  Of course she wears the quintessential black shift dress, and she even makes wearing a sheet look effortlessly classy.  A sheet!  This movie also made me want to buy an adorable sleep mask and tassel earplugs (trust me on this).

Natural Eye Makeup Look

This is my go-to, everyday makeup.  It is quick and easy, and very natural looking.  Definitely no-makeup makeup.

Products used:

  • Mascara– Maybelline Lash Discovery
  • Black Pencil Eyeliner
  • Eye Shadow Primer– Benefit Stay Don’t Stray
  • Bronzer– Benefit Hoola
  • Highlight– Too Faced Candlelight
  • Eyelash Curler
  • Blending Brush

  • Small Angled Eyeshadow Brush
  • Black Eyeshadow

1. Prime Eyelids-

To act as a wash of color for the lid!  I don’t use any other eyeshadow for this look, only a bit of bronzer in the crease.  Put some on your lid and blend it out with your fingers.  I cover the entire lid, all the way up to my brow.

2. Line Upper Waterline With Black Pencil-

I always do this with any eye look as it makes the upper lashes appear thicker!

3. Tightline Upper Lash Line With Black Eyeshadow (Optional)

Since my eyes are hooded, instead of using liquid liner or lining my lashes on the lid,  I’ll often tightline my upper lash line with black eyeshadow.  To do this, take a bit of shadow on a small angled brush and push the shadow into the lash line, right at the roots.  I do this at the inner lash line and also on top of the lashes, again as close to the roots as possible. nm3

Type of Beautiful Spotlight: Moya

Describe Your Type of Beautiful:

Loving Beautiful. I really do want the best for everyone, and for everyone to have love in their lives, especially love with honesty and trust. I believe in being there for people whenever they need you (if you can be), and doing everything that you can always, with a good heart and mind behind it. Even if I don’t receive it back from anyone, I know that the one person upstairs matters and that He does. It’s easy to be negative. It takes more work to always be positive, but I would rather love and be positive and see all the good things happen, and see the good in most of everything, then to not.

I want to love, and be loved, and all others to be loved… I truly think that is my beautiful.

Who Are Your Fashion Inspirations?

Definitely always and forever- Sarah Jessica Parker! Current fashion inspirations would have to be Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Victoria Beckham. I absolutely love Michael Costello and his BEAUTIFUL dresses!!!  Beyonce also has wonderful, colorful style!

What Is Your Go-To Outfit?

My go-to outfit would definitely be a wonderful, cute sundress, or a button up with a pencil skirt!  Other than that, for laying at home or a quick run it would be leggings with a cute tank or hoodie (depending on the time of year ) and a cap!

What Fall Trend Or Style Are You Most Excited About?

I am so excited for the layered clothes for fall!!! How can anyone not be!

Fast, Easy: Smokey Eye Look

My favorite smokey eye look. This is really simple to do, it actually only uses one eye shadow!  This one-shadow look is great for hooded eyes like mine; I don’t have much lid space for too many shadows at once.  I used the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in the shade Bad to the Bronze.  (The metallic look of this shadow allows it to look like you have on more than one once you blend it out).  I have several of these Color Tattoo shadows because they are so easy to use.  In this image, Bad to the Bronze is the bottom shade.

Here is my fast, easy (5 steps), beautiful smokey eye look!

Step 1: Prime Lids

You can use any primer you’d like, my favorite is the Benefit Stay Don’t Stray in the shade light/medium.  You don’t have to use primer, but it definitely makes a difference in how long your eyeshadow stays put!  There are many options for eyeshadow primer as far as price; and now just about every brand makes their own.

Step 2: Tightline Upper Lid/Apply Eyeshadow

Use your favorite khol pencil or eyeliner to tightline your upper eyelid.  To do this, gently lift your eyelid up so you can see where your lashes meet your eyelid and apply the eyeliner there.  If you’re still unsure about this, do a quick Google search 🙂 This makes lashes appear thicker, and it does not take away eyelid space (great for hooded eyes)!  You can line your lower lash line if you’d like, but personally I skip that step since it makes my eyes look smaller.  Next, use your finger to apply eyeshadow to your eyelid to just above your crease.  You can pat the eyeshadow on your lid to make it more pigmented, and drag it up slightly from there.  This part can be pretty messy since it is going to get blended out!

Step 3: Blend, Blend, Blend…Then Blend Some More

Use a blending brush to blend out the line at your crease, up and out.  Blending is very important for this look, especially if you don’t want any harsh lines.  The idea is to get the eyeshadow to fade out.  Blend, blend, blend!  Put your brush in the outer corner of your eyelid crease like it is here, and use windshield-wiper motions to go along your crease and soften the edge of the shadow.   For hooded eyes like mine: blend with your eye open!  This way you can see the part of your lid you will actually still see with your eye open, and you can blend the shadow up past that point.

Beauty Must-Haves: September 2016

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm ($29)

For some reason my skin has been freaking out lately, big time.  I had to completely change my skin care routine to control the breakouts, but I finally found the magic combination.  This cleansing balm does an amazing job at taking off makeup, even waterproof mascara.  If I wear a face full of makeup, I’ll use this and then give my face one more quick wash with an acne-fighting cleanser.

Beauty Secrets Acetone Nail Polish Remover ($2.29 with Beauty Club Card):

This nail polish removerimg_0196 is pretty great.  It is really affordable, nourishing, works well, and I think it actually smells good!  Don’t judge me until you try it.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant ($55) and Destiny Boutique Charcoal Facial Detox ($9.99 at T.J. Maxx)

I had really bad breakouts for the first time in years recently, so I had to revamp my routine.  I had tried Dermalogica in the past, but lately had been using more affordable products.  Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I went ahead and bought this daily microfoliant and it has greatly improved the texture of my skin.  I keep it in my shower because it is this weird powder you have to mix with water to form a paste.  When I’m not using the microfoliant, I have been washing with the charcoal facial detox, and so far my skin is pretty happy.  According to their site, “NO ETHOXYLATES, MINERAL OILS, FORMALDEHYDE DONORS, SULFATES, PARABENS, ARTIFICIAL COLORS, FRAGRANCE or any of that scary stuff.”

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion ($17)

This drying lotion is amazing, trust me.  You take a Q-tip and dab it on the spot to work its magic overnight.   I don’t really have much else to say about this stuff.  Best spot-treatment ever.   There is significant improvement in just one night.

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lip Gloss in Kinky ($22)

This lipgloss is a really beautiful nude shade.  The formula is not too sticky, long-lasting, and it doesn’t dry your lips out.  I actually purchased this for $11 during Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty (whoot whoot!),  and I will definitely buy it again.  P.S. it comes in 22 shades.

Maybelline Eyestudio Colortattoo 24hr Cream Gel Eyeshadow ($6.99)

These eyeshadows are SO GOOD!  I use my fingers to put it on my eyelid, and then I blend it up and into the crease with a blending brush.  So easy, but it looks like you tried way harder than you really did.  Perfect.  I will line my upper waterline, throw this shadow on, then a quick coat of mascara, and eyes are done.  I especially like this specific eyeshadow because they aren’t too expensive, you can find them really easily, and they come in a lot of shades and several finishes.

Spotlight: Type of Beautiful

My Type of Beautiful
Classic, with a bit of sporty and trendy for good measure!

My Fashion Inspirations

Audrey Hepburn, Rihanna, Nicole Williams (from WAGS, anyone else watch that show?!)

My Go-To Outfit

Skinny jeans, cute top, light jacket, and heels or wedges.

Fall Trend/Style I’m Most Excited About

Bomber jackets and combat boots!  Also, I love a good scarf.

Favorite Item of Clothing

My Banana Republic jacket, definitely.  I throw it on with jeans and boots, or a dress and heels, it makes any outfit. *Fall Lookbook coming soon*

Favorite Perfume

  • Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy
Must-Have Hair Product

Sebastian  Re-Shaper Hairspray, which is currently on sale at Ulta!  Holla!  It smells amazing, and it brushes out easily for re-styling (hence the name).

My Three Holy-Grail Makeup Products
  • D.J.V. Miaray Fiberwig Mascara- this stuff is literally like false lashes in a tube.  A few coats and my eyelashes legit touch my eyebrows!  Leave a comment if you want me to post a video or more details about it.
  • Vaseline Lip Therapy– best lip balm I’ve ever used.  Period.
  • NYX Micro Brow Pencil– my favorite, a great dupe for Anastasia Brow Wiz.

You Only Have Time to Put On One Thing (Mascara, Lipstick, Etc.) What is it?

Mascara!  Better Than Sex is a great one-coat option.

Go-To Hairstyle

I go through phases, and right now it’s all about the topknot.  Evidence is here, in my butterfly-crown glamour shot!  Can I take a quick second to talk about how I’m late the the game, but slightly addicted to SnapChat now?!

Favorite Makeup Trick

Briefly (just a few seconds) heating an eyelash curler with a hairdryer before curling my lashes.  It makes the curl last all day!  I’ll also do this when I don’t put any makeup on, but want to pretend to look awake.

Best Bargain Makeup Item

Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara- One of my favorite mascaras I’ve ever tried. It lengthens and separates your lashes, and it only takes one or two coats for really dark, stand-out lashes. I have a few high end mascaras I’ll go between (I think I’ve probably tested just about all of them), but I always have a tube of this on hand!  $2.99 at Walgreens.

If I Could Tell My Younger Self Something About Beauty, What Would It Be?

I’d tell younger me to embrace my curly hair, and stop comparing myself to other girls!  I didn’t know what to do, so I would try and brush my curls out, it didn’t end well.  Thank God Chrissy came along (love you!) and helped me out.  This is my 7th grade picture!

Keep an eye out for my guest Spotlight posts! Thanks for reading ❤
